Good People Ruined by Religion
We had these new neighbors move in. At first glance, they were great. We happen to have two next-doors, because the way our house sits back on the spot, our next door neighbors are just as next-door to us as the people on the next street. So the people next door are not allowed to play with a magic set, because magic is evil. They don’t trick-or-treat, they aren’t allowed to read Harry Potter and they used to be homeschooled, how they go to Christian School. Other than all that, they’re nice enough people. My kids don’t enjoy playing with them much because they tend to be bullyish, but whatever- to each his own. I’m not forcing my kids to be friends with someone. SO- imagine our delight when a second family moves in next door to us (so all three houses make a triangle) This family has 4 kids and they’re really a lot of fun. Every day I have been putting out some messy kind of activity because their 6 yr old has so much fun and they’re really sweet. And their 12 yr old has fun with my 11 yr old, it seems. Today, though, they were grilling my kids for “information.” “Do you believe in God?” “Are you going to heaven?” I guess I just find it sad that people really believe all that, and that their kids are blindly believing it because they were taught that it’s true. And they were such a sweet family. Why are so many perfectly good people ruined by religion?

I always say to each their own. If faith comforts someone in a crazy world like ours, then so be it. I don’t want to be the one to take that away, even if it is often misplaced.
